Vaginal steaming, also known as v-steaming or yoni steaming, is a practice that was used throughout the world to support uterine and menstrual health for thousands of years. Unfortunately, with the onset of Western gynecology in the late 19th century, vaginal steaming was part of the wisdom lost through the banishment of midwifery.
Thankfully, this simple yet highly effective practice is being remembered.
Fill a medium sized pot with water and place it on medium-high heat. If you have herbs for your yoni steam, add them to the pot before heating.
After steam begins to rise from your pot, but before you see it boil, remove the pot from the heat.
Remove Sauna lid and place your pot inside the Kitara Sauna. Close the lid again. Check the heat of the steam with your hand to ensure it is not to hot, waiting for temp to cool if needed. You're ready to steam!
Sit on top of your sauna uncovered from the waist down. After you sit, you may want to wrap a cozy organic blanket over your lap. Widen your knees apart from each other comfortably.
The steam should feel warm and soothing, never hot, painful, or even the slightest bit uncomfortable.
Enjoy your steam for 10-15 minutes or up to 30 minutes if first advised by a Certified Vaginal Steam Practitioner.
While you steam, enjoy some favorite soothing music or a meditation, drink a cup of nourishing + hydrating tea, and relax into your sweet moment of embodied wombspace self-care.

Steaming should NEVER hurt and PLEASE DON'T BURN YOURSELF. When practiced properly, steaming is always gentle, soothing, and relaxing. Before every steam session, check the temperature of the steam coming out of the top of the sauna with the palm of your hand. If it's too hot for comfort, wait for the steam to cool. If you think it's cool enough and then things heat up beyond comfort, stand up immediately and wait again for the steam to cool. If ever something just doesn't feel right, pause your practice and reach out to us at Kitaralove.com or info@kitaralove.com. We're here to help!
A note on our current culture: We tend to have this "work hard, play hard" script operating in our lives that steaming does not fit into. There is no benefit from enduring discomfort. In fact, steaming is more beneficial when experienced with gentleness and ease. It is a time to connect lovingly with your yoni through nurturance and care. Burning IS AVOIDABLE. Never steam beyond your comfort and stand up immediately if you experience even an inkling of discomfort or pain.
YES. Major contraindications or times when steaming is to be avoided are: 1) During pregnancy (steam opens the cervix) 2) During your bleed/period (steam increases blood flow) 3) Between ovulation and bleed when trying to conceive 4) If you're experiencing spontaneous bleeding/ bleeding in-between periods.
The Kitara Sauna is about 14in x 14in x 14in. Small enough to be lovingly tucked into a closet when not in use. Also cute enough for your living room. Just pop a coffee table book or a jar of flowers on top and let it blend into your home aesthetic.
For the most basic vaginal steam set up, you only need water and a heat source. However, herbs chosen to support your specific ailments are advised for optimal results. It is also critical that you have a safe, comfortable, and easy way to be over the steam. This is why a seat/stool, or what is known as a "vaginal steam sauna" is so highly recommended for the practice. The Kitara sauna is designed specifically to offer safety, comfort, and ease for in-home vaginal steaming.
